Development of Functional Filter Materials for Virus Protective Face Masks

Wearing face masks during pandemics is an important protective measure against the spreading of virus-related infectious diseases. Nevertheless, risk indirect transmission virus by handling one earliest concerns. This problem can be minimized supplementing masks’ textile structure with coatings. Therefore, in this concept, suitable techniques for manufacturing filter media should evaluated. In study, nonwoven polyamide 6 (PA6) material functionalized negatively charged linear polyglycerol sulfate (LPGS) as a binding functional group. Two coating conditions are investigated which direct covalent LPGS has emerged optimum method, showing no damage to PA6 nanofiber structure. The uncoated and LPGS-coated materials exhibited particle filtration efficiencies 95% 94% airborne feline coronavirus, 98% 86% equine herpesvirus 1(EHV-1), respectively. However, SARS-CoV-2 absorption assay solution indicates that reduces viral titres up 71% when incubating one-hour. Thus, such effect not seen materials.
